If you read my recent post on how to get better at guitar then you know my key message was to practice! Practice is the only thing that will get you to where you want to be on the guitar. However, it is essential that the practice is structured and productive. Well for me the one thing that has brought that structure is Truefire.

Anyway, back to Truefire…
What is Truefire?
I have to admit that Trufire is a surprising name for a company that specialises in guitar lessons. However, putting that to one side let me explain what they do. Truefire is a global leader in the provision of online guitar tuition. That is all they do, guitar lessons, and they are pretty damn good at it.
Remember in my previous article I talked about structure. Come on, what do you mean you haven’t read it yet! Read it now, it’s worth it – How to get better at guitar. Anyway, the important thing about learning to play the guitar is structured and productive practice. Believe me when I say that Truefire provides that!
What does TrueFire provide?
The thousands of guitar lessons:
- Over 45,000 and growing.
The fact that the videos are all shot in high definition –
- And they are shot from multiple angles, you can pause, rewind and slow it down. This is a really awesome feature which really enables you to see what is going on.
Everything is notated –
- Extensive tablature which plays as the lesson plays. There is a red line that scans through the tablature as the tutor plays the music. This is a brilliant feature allowing you to see exactly where you are.
There are various learning paths –
- You can choose from blues to rock and country to jazz. The learning paths take you from beginner to an advanced level covering all the core skills and techniques that you would need to confidently play the guitar.
Truefire has more tutors than you can shake a stick at!
- I counted 258 in total (that’s right I counted them all, that’s how far I am prepared to go to give you the information you need)! All of the tutors are gigging musicians and some of them are familiar faces – Steve Vai, Alex Skolnick, Jennifer Batten, Dweezil Zappa, Robben Ford, Reeves Gabrels, I could go on…
I could say all of those things, I could say a lot more…
But I won’t. I don’t need to say anything more than this.
Is it any good?
Did I learn anything from using Truefire – Yes!
Has my guitar playing improved – Yes, hugely.
Therefore the only question I am going to ask you is this –
