The Caparison TAT Special 7 not only has 7 strings it has 27 frets as well!
Continuing with the theme of bigger and better (earlier this week we reviewed the Ibanez RG2228 8 string guitar) we have just seen that Caparison Guitars have added a 7 string 27 fret monster to their TAT range. We are sure that the Caparison TAT Special 7 will soon gain a whole lot of fans who want to experiment with what is possible on the humble guitar.
Caparison Guitars was established in Japan back in 1995 by former designers from the Charvel/Jackson Japanese design division. The idea was to challenge the status quo and deliver highly innovative bespoke guitars. They seem to have succeeded in this plan having gained the endorsement of some major names in guitar music.
The Caparison TAT series has proved to be a successful range of guitars for Caparison and the addition of the Caparison TAT Special 7 demonstrates the commitment to extend the boundaries of what is possible with a guitar.
The Caparison TAT Special 7 is made from a number of the best tonewoods designed to deliver maximum strength and tonal output. The body of the guitar is mahogany with a maple top finished in transparent blue, black or red which really shows of the maple top to its full effect. The through body neck is of a 5 piece construction combining maple and walnut and is topped off with a 27 fret ebony fingerboard. The neck is fairly slimline for a seven string guitar with a width at the nut of 49 mm and has a scale length of just 648 mm which is quite short considering that you are packing in 27 frets. This however, gives a compact neck which should be more comfortable to play, especially when you are considering the addition of that seventh string.
The pick-ups on the Caparison TAT Special 7 are in-house, Caparison designed humbuckers which can be accessed through a 3 way pick-up selector and also via the rotary switch selector. This provides myriad pick-up permutations, giving the guitarist a huge choice and a high level of ability to experiment with what is possible from the guitar and its pick-ups.
The Caparison TAT Special 7 is armed with a Floyd Rose locking tremolo and has Gotoh machine heads continuing the high specification of this guitar.
All in all the Caparison TAT Special 7 is an extremely high spec guitar which should challenge the likes of Schecter and Ibanez for the seven string crown.
